Journey with us, friends, to a land where unrequited love can be requited. Where old flames can burn anew, even years later. And where no montage of people hanging out/kissing/bonking is treacly enough that it can’t be overdubbed with winsome warbling and tinkly piano. Welcome, then, to Nicholas Sparksania, where they have just pushed the first trailer for The Best Of Me on to the web.

This latest offering from the best-selling and box office-bothering romance novelist tells the story of Dawson and Amanda, two former high school sweethearts from different sides of the tracks (Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato in the past; James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan now) who find themselves reunited after 20 years apart when they return to their small town for the funeral of a beloved friend.

Their bittersweet reunion reignites the love they've never forgotten, but soon they discover the forces that drove them apart all those years years ago live on, posing even more serious threats today… Yes, when they first got together, they crossed the terrifying Colonel Skunk, who has ordered that all the woodland creatures go on the offensive against humans in retaliation. Now the battle lines will be drawn and the all right so we’re completely making this bit up. But wouldn’t you pay good money to see that? Still, Marsden and Monaghan can sell most things, so we'll hope they can make something of this.

With Michael Hoffman orchestrating the romantic noodling from a script he wrote with J. Mills Goodloe and Will Fetters,** The Best Of Me** will be out in the US on October 17, but has yet to inform us when it will bother UK shores.
