The Strain debuted last year to mostly positive reactions, bringing Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s mutant vampire virus tale to the small screen and infecting TV with a welcome new breed of gruesome bloodsucker. Season 2 will arrive in the summer, and there’s a teaser online to prove it.
There’s naturally no real show footage on display here as the series is only just about gearing back up into production. But the eerie, chaotic feel of the first year is once again in effect, with the vampire infection having spread liberally around New York and beyond, with mankind locked in a battle to stop our civilisation being eaten alive by a plague of terrifying creatures.
Del Toro won’t be directing an episode this year – he’s even busier than usual editing Crimson Peak and developing more Pacific Rim – but Carlton Cuse is back as executive producer and we’re promised ever more terrifying scenes. Even if they’ll have to go some to match the horror of Corey Stoll’s hairpiece... The Strain should return to the UK later this year.
