Promising a very different look at the creatures of the night, or vampires if you prefer, horror mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows has already garnered great reviews, not least from ourselves. To give you just a taste of the film, Metrodome has put the first six minutes online.

Set in New Zealand, Shadows follows the day-to-day lives of vampires Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) as they strive heroically to cope with the demands of modern life. There are all the usual complexities of flat sharing (rent-shy flat mates, bills to be paid, chores), complicated by some rather more unusual ones (the constant craving for human blood, the untimely arrival of vampire hunters, vampire hipsters).

This clip introduces us to the guys as Viago tries to rouse them in their “morning” (6pm) for a flat meeting about Deacon not pulling his weight in terms of chores. We also get to meet Petyr (Ben Fransham), their 8,000-year-old fellow resident who doesn’t seem to be interested in much besides hissing and killing things. He certainly doesn’t offer to clean up…

Written and directed by Clement and Waititi, What We Do In The Shadows (which you can call “wuddits” for short if you want), will be stalking UK cinemas on November 21. You can find more about the film in the new issue of **Empire, which arrives in shops and some crypts this Thursday.
