Shorn of Edgar Wright's services, the good ship **Ant-Man **steams on with a new poster and a strong Comic-Con presence to still the waters of fanboy discontent. This first effort is a big, bold statement of intent from Marvel. If it could speak, it might say: "Here we are, making this movie and it's still got ants in it." Time will tell if that genre background is reflected in the first romantic sex comedy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but you'd have to presume not.
Reed, though, is no newbie to this line of work. He spent time developing the original Fantastic Four film at 20th Century Fox before Tim Story took over. He inherits a cast that already includes Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Evangeline Lilly and Patrick Wilson, and has Adam McKay reworking the Wright / Joe Cornish screenplay to the studio's satisfaction.
As part of its official announcement about Reed and McKay stepping board, Marvel released a new synopsis for the film, which reads thusly: “Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”
The film is scheduled to start shooting imminently and is scheduled to open on July 17, 2015. Hurry, hurry!
