Matthew Vaughn is still shooting his next movie – the ultra-violent comic-book adaptation, Kick-Ass – but that hasn’t prevented the first official pics from the movie making their way online.

We’ve got our hands on two shots from the adaptation of the Mark Millar-John Romita Jr. Marvel comic, which showcase the film’s hero – teenage vigilante Dave Lizewski (Brit newcomer Aaron Johnson) – in his internet-bought wetsuit-cum-costume.

The first shot shows Dave – sorry, Kick-Ass – handing out a beating to some street thugs with the help of two lead pipes, while the second indicates that the bloodied teenager – who becomes a self-proclaimed hero despite having no powers – might have to change his name to Kicked-Ass. Ahem.

Empire was on set just this week – look out for videblogisode coverage very soon – and were hugely excited by what we saw, with Vaughn confident that his blend of wise-ass quips, stylised fight scenes and larger-than-life performances (look out, in particular, for Nicolas Cage as Big Daddy, and Mark Strong as Mafia kingpin Frank D’Amico) will set Kick-Ass apart from the comic book movie crowd. And we're inclined to believe him.
