Shooting has started on mountain peril movie **Everest **and, boy, does it look chilly. Director Baltasar Kormakur has taken his ensemble cast to Nepal, looking to film his account of an ill-fated, storm-beset 1996 expedition in vérité conditions. He's found them.

Somewhere behind Jason Clarke - playing New Zealand team leader Rob Hall - are Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal in this first-look still from the film. Each is grizzled, determined and a very long way from the nearest craft services wagon. Kormakur, whose 2 Guns was a modest hit last year, is overseeing a story made famous by Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air. In it, two separate Everest expeditions will run into tragic difficulties in a sudden storm with life-threatening consequences. The screenplay is adapted by Mark Medoff (Children Of A Lesser God) and Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire).

Emily Watson, Michael Kelly and The Bridge’s Thomas M. Wright are also aboard.

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producing Everest, and Kormakur and his cast will also be heading to the Italian Alps, Cinecittà and Pinewood studios. We’ll see it in 3D and on IMAX from February 27, 2015.
