You may not think that a film about a wamed tuber would be up your street, but as it turns out The Hot Potato doesn't have to do with actual potatoes, whether baked or fried. Instead, it's the lower-carb tale of two East End geezers in 1960s London who find themselves in well over their heads when they come into possession of a lump of pure uranium. And here's the very first picture from the film, which stars Ray Winstone and Jack Huston as the two blokes in question.
As the blurb has it, "Kenny (Winstone) and Danny (Huston) decide to investigate the value of the ‘potato’ and, to their surprise, find that there is seemingly no end of people willing to pay a high price for it. The pair, ably assisted by Danny’s girlfriend, Carole (Lois Winstone) and shadowed at every turn by the unshakable Harry Fisher (Colm Meaney), right-hand-man of local criminal big-shots, launch themselves on an increasingly dangerous and comedic adventure, in which they meet a diverse cast of colourful characters, all desperate to buy."
The Hot Potato will be out late next year, we're guessing. It's the first film from director Tim Lewiston and also stars David Harewood, John Lynch and Louise Redknapp.
