Cormac McCarthy's first original screenplay and Ridley Scott's latest, The Counsellor promises to be dark, murky and filled with amorality. We're confident that it will also be so good it makes the lame walk and brings the dead back to life, or failing that, at least make our top ten list for the year. Here are the two female leads, Cameron Diaz and Penélope Cruz, in action, alongside Javier Bardem, who has once again used a Cormac McCarthy project as an excuse to get his hair cut by a drunk man with pruning shears.

If the film's first teaser trailer is a good indicator of the mayhem to come, **The Counsellor **will pitch them all right in the quagmire alongside Michael Fassbender's venal, out-of-his-depth lawyer. Plot details are still under wraps, but with McCarthy's previous creations in mind - No Country For Old Men's Chigurh, The Road's cannibals and just about everyone in Blood Meridian - expect the bad guys to be plenty nasty in this one.

Appearing alongside Fassbender, Cruz, Bardem and Diaz are Brad Pitt and Game Of Thrones' Natalie Dormer.

"We started a week after Prometheus came out," the director told Empire last year. "It has a classic Cormac McCarthy darkness which makes you sick to the pit of your stomach. It's really frightening. It's saying: 'Don't play with the devil, don't step across the line, don't think you can do it and get away with it. You can't'."

Quite clearly we were sold even before it started reuniting the cast of Vanilla Sky, but we're even, erm, sold-er now. Expect plenty more on The Counsellor before it reaches our theatres on November 15.
