Bryan Singer teased Empire about Professor Xavier’s hair status in the exclusive X-Men: Apocalypse feature that appears in the new issue. Now we get the reason for his coy attitude: looks like James McAvoy is finally going bald to play the prof. with his traditional shiny-bonced look.

Singer took to Instagram at the weekend to show off the image of the actor going under the barber’s clippers, clearly opting for a more natural approach to hair loss than the rubbery bald cap. It’ll be strange to see him approaching the Patrick Stewart/comics look for the character, but makes sense as the character moves into the 1980s.
X-Men: Apocalypse, which reunites the First Class/Days Of Future Past gang that includes Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique and Nicholas Hoult’s Beast, also features newcomers Olivia Munn (Psylocke), Ben Hardy (Angel), Oscar Isaac as the titular bad guy, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm and Lana Condor as Jubilee. The film opens on May 19 next year. For more from our exclusive chat with Singer and writer/producer Simon Kinberg, check out the latest issue of **Empire.
