There really are some people in the world who don’t like penguins; who are, in fact convinced that the feathered friends are more like villainous feathery fiends. And these Penguins Of Madagascar do nothing to counteract such fears, since they are more inclined to plot some deranged scheme than to try the sort of adorably natural behaviour that has Morgan Freeman warming up his vocal chords. Check out the first images from the Penguins’ first solo film.

After stealing any number of scenes in the three Madagascar movies to date and launching their own TV series, Skipper, Corporal, Kowalski and Private have been handed a spin-off film that allows them to get up to more madness without anyone having to cut back to Alex and co. Few details have emerged about what they’ll actually be up to this time, but the movie is apparently a spy thriller that also features the voices of John Malkovich (as the villain of the piece) and Benedict Cumberbatch (as a secret agent animal who recruits our heroes to help his cause).

Simon J. Smith and Eric Darnell are on directorial duty, with regular voices (and DreamWorks Animation alumni) Tom McGrath, Chris Miller and Christopher Knights taking their usual roles. Assuming they don’t somehow get lost along the way, Penguins Of Madagascar will be out in the UK on December 5.
