The car's the star

Based on the trailers, the jury's still out on whether the movie will be much good, but at least this new poster for The Green Hornet is cool.

Rather than Seth Rogen or Jay Chou, it's the car that's the focus: the iconic Black Beauty taking centre stage, and illuminating the logo with its patent infra-green headlights; a top-down angle giving us a good look at the hood-mounted mini-guns. Nice, although it very slightly reminds us of the teaser poster for **X-Files 2.

Like the Batmobile, the Black Beauty, "a mobile fortress on wheels", was as much a star of the '60s TV series as the actors, but unlike the Batmobile, it's not been especially updated for the new movie. The new car is a mixture of Chrysler Imperials (or to be accurate, Imperials, made by Chrysler) from 1964, '65 and '66. Not exactly the same as before, but closer than the result would have been had the production gone with its offers from BMW and General Motors.

The Green Hornet stars Rogen as crime-fighting media magnate Britt Reid, and Chou as his martial-arts techno-wizard Kato (who pimps their ride). Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, Edward James Olmos, David Harbour and Tom Wilkinson are also all in the mix, and the film, directed by Michel Gondry, finally buzzes into cinemas in January 2011.
