Last week Great Expectations** was named as the closing film for this year's BFI London Film Festival. This week, we have the first clip from Mike Newell's adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic, featuring Jeremy Irvine as Pip and Ralph Fiennes as Magwitch - so take a look and see what you think.
This scene, of course, takes place with Pip as a grown man, raised to respectability thanks to a mysterious benefactor. He re-encounters the escaped convict he helped as a boy - that would be Magwitch - and learns some uncomfortable truths about his life (don't worry: no major spoilers in this clip).**

The film also stars Helena Bonham-Carter as the manipulative Miss Havisham, David Walliams as Uncle Pumblechook, Robbie Coltrane as lawyer Mr Jaggers and Jason Flemyng as Pip's uncle Joe Gargery. David Nicholls wrote the script, and of course Mike Newell is directing.
Great Expectations will premiere in Toronto this week, screen at the London Film Festival on its closing night on October 21 and opens across the country on November 30.
