The last couple of months has seen a steady bombardment of new characters from the eagerly-awaited Toy Story 3, from Mr. Pricklepants to Jack-in-the-Box – and now we’re delighted to tell you that we’ve got the first look at the final two.
Meet Big Baby and Bookworm – two of the fourteen new characters who’ll be mixing it with Woody, Buzz and the regulars when they’re relocated to Sunnydale Day Care Centre in the film, directed by Lee Unkrich. In the tradition of the previous twelve, Disney has released a blurb about the characters, as if they were real toys.
So, here’s Big Baby: “Your little one will love this lifelike baby doll with his soft, cuddly fabric body and vinyl arms, legs and face. With dazzling blue eyes that open and close, this realistic baby encourages nurturing play. Eighteen inches tall, he comes dressed in an adorable yellow onesie with matching bonnet, and has his own magical bottle of milk that disappears while he drinks! A perfect first doll for your special child. Machine washable on gentle cycle. Flame retardant.”
Oh, is that flame retardant a plot point? After all, with his jailhouse tats and gammy eye, Big Baby looks like he’s a toy not to be messed with. Might he be something of a nemesis for our heroes?
Bookworm, on the other hand, looks positively cute and friendly. Here’s his backstory: “Story time becomes extra special when Bookworm joins the fun! This bedtime reading companion encourages your child's love of reading, while keeping them company with his happy smile. Bookworm’s sturdy flashlight features an extra-long-lasting lightbulb, bright enough to read by without causing eyestrain. Two C batteries included. Ages 4 and up.”
And that’s your lot. How the new characters will fit into the Toy Story world is anyone’s guess, but we have to say, we like what Lee Unkrich and his team are doing with the designs thus far. In Pixar we trust…
