The Filth poster we saw yesterday - complete with James McAvoy riding a giant bucking pig, which you can see below - gave a good indication that the film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's provocative novel will filthy. This new trailer does likewise, and boy is it fun.

Where else are you going to see Eddie Marsan rubbing his nipples or the young Professor X photocopying his nether regions? Actually, it's probably best if you don't answer that.

McAvoy plays the scheming Bruce Robertson, a bigoted and corrupt policeman in line for a promotion who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal (John Sessions).

As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, as a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

Filth also features the likes of Imogen Poots, Joanne Froggatt, Shirley Henderson and Shauna Macdonald, the film is ripped from the twisted Irvine Welsh novel by writer / director Jon S. Baird. It’ll creep into Scottish cinemas on September 27 and the rest of the UK on October 4.
