By Christmas, most of the finest cuts from the summer’s Cannes line-up will have landed on our screens. Not this year. David Robert Mitchell’s acclaimed It Follows doesn’t reach us until February, arriving with a tonne of critical acclaim from those lucky enough to have seen it on the Croisette. UK distribution house Icon was among them, and had little hesitation bringing the film to our shores. **Empire **is delighted to share a first teaser from the film right here but be warned, there’s something lurking in the woods...
The plot sees The Guest’s scream queen Maika Monroe back in peril as Jay, a 19 year-old who suspects – no, knows – that something malevolent is following her. She and her friends team up to get to the bottom of the threat, only to find themselves mired deeper and deeper in something far beyond their control.
That air of early John Carpenter is augmented by a trunkful of subtext and clichés playfully subverted in an old-fashioned horror with plenty of new ideas. Without giving too much away, Mitchell, whose debut feature The Myth of the American Sleepover offered a gentler look at growing up, has unleashed a monster that will make chastity look like a really strong option.

It Follows** hits UK cinema screens on February 27. Horrorheads, fans of American indie cinema, and, well, anyone with eyeballs and a steady heart should be counting off the days.
