A Brit horror mingling Celtic folklore, social realism and balls-out beasties to frightening effect, **Outcast **has been scaring the bejeezus out of people since Frightfest. As this clip shows, the occult features strongly too. It sees James Nesbitt making a social call to Kate Dickie's house and probably wishing he's just phoned instead.
Nesbitt's Irish traveller may not even be the villain of the piece, although, judging by appearances, he's hardly the cheeky chappie we know and love either. His mysterious hunter Cathal tracks down old flame Mary (Red Road's Dickie) and her son Fergal. Membership of an ancient Irish sect enables Mary to use magic to protect them, but it may not help against another, magic-defying monster at large on their Edinburgh council estate.
With black magic, spells and some gritty urban settings, director Colm McCarthy may have found the exact midway point between Harry Potter and My Name Is Joe. Find out when it's released on Friday December 10.
