Aside from looking cool, listening to jazz and not rhyming very much, the Beat poets were a film-friendly breed whose anti-establishment ways and creative frictions have spilt naturally onto the big screen. In the last few years, there have been eight screen incarnations of Jack Kerouac alone. In the latest, Kill Your Darlings, the On The Road writer has a relatively minor role and it's the film's poster boys, Lucien Carr (Dane DeHaan) and Allen Ginsberg (Daniel Radcliffe), who take centre stage. Click on the new poster for a closer look at the pair. ** Kill Your** **Darlings **finds Radcliffe as Ginsberg, who arrives at Columbia University in 1944 and promptly meets Carr. The uninhibited young student - a key member of the Beat inner circle - soon introduces A-Ginz to a bohemian world and the likes of William Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Kerouac (Jack Huston).
While they were all showing signs of their future talent, it’s here the Beat poets’ lives took a turn. Repelled by rules and conformity in both life and literature, the group agree to tear down tradition and make something new, giving birth to what became the Beat movement. On the outside looking in is David Kammerer (Hall), a man in his thirties desperately in love with Carr. When Kammerer is found dead, and Kerouac, Burroughs, and Carr are arrested in conjunction with the murder, the nascent artists’ world is rocked.
