Being the chirpy, gregarious sort of chap he is, spending the majority of a movie alone in a darkened hotel room can't have been particularly pleasant for John Cusack. Still, he must have survived the ordeal, as the new Stephen King adaptation, 1408, is set to hit UK screens on August 31. As author Mike Enslin, Cusack embarks on a research trip that sees him check into a NYC hotel and head for room 1408 – a place where a series of nasty historical occurrences mean bad vibes and supernatural beings are included free of charge. Samuel L. Jackson and Mary McCormack also make appearances as the hotel's manager and Enslin’s estranged wife respectively.
With recent horror flicks slipping and sliding on their own entrails and preferring to splatter the audience with vats of blood and guts, 1408’s parade of psychological terror should make a refreshing change.
