Dinner For Schmucks, the US remake of Francis Veber’s French comedy hit The Dinner Game, has been sitting on the backburner longer than Lord Lucan’s dinner, but it’s finally arrived and boasts comedy demigods Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell. And here’s the brand new trailer for proof.
Paul Rudd plays Tim, a corporate ladder-climber who hosts a 'dinner party for idiots' in which bragging rights go to the person who invites the biggest simpleton. Steve Carell’s Barry, a role originally earmarked for Sacha Baron Cohen, is that man. Cue a series of well-intentioned but seriously misguided acts of buffoonery from Barry that send Tim’s life spiralling disastrously - and entertainingly - out of control.
Director Jay ‘Austin Powers’ Roach, a man who also brought Meet The Parents and sequel to the screen and who knows a thing or two about box-office alchemy, has assembled enough comic wattage to light a small town. Look out too for supporting roles for Zach Galifianakis, David Walliams, Jemaine Clement and fellow Conchord Kristen Schaal.
Dinner For Schmucks is out on August 20.
