Following last week’s news that Tony Wilson – Head Honcho of Factory Records and all around music-biz legend – had passed away, it seems only fitting that in the coming months fans, family and friends will be able to look back at the life of a young man 'Mr Manchester' cherished so dearly.

Anton Corbijn’s Control hits screens on October 5 and revisits (in perfect monochrome glory) the life and death of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis. The movie proved a critical smash at Cannes earlier this year, with Sam Riley’s leading turn as the epilepsy-plagued singer being lauded at every turn.

Hailing from the Manchester and eventually signing to Factory, Joy Division strode into the limelight with the 1979 post-punk masterpiece Unknown Pleasures, before following the LP’s success with 1980’s Closer. On the eve of their first US tour in May of that year, Curtis hung himself at home.

Of course, Control won’t mark the first time Curtis has been portrayed on screen - in Michael Winterbottom’s 24 Hour Party People, Sean Harris took the part of the band’s frontman. Click below to take an exclusive peek at Control’s new UK one sheet:
