Stars present and future butt heads in this new clip from Australian crimer thriller Son Of A Gun. In the red corner is Ewan McGregor as Australia's-most-wanted-type hardnut lunatic, Brendan Lynch; in the blue is Pirates Of The Caribbean 5**'s Brenton Thwaites as 19 year-old JR, a relative newcomer to the muscle-topped gang. It's probably safest to put your Aussie dollars on the former - seriously muscled-up for this one - before clicking play on this one.

The set-up sees Brendan (McGregor), with charm to match his menace, taking the young con under his wing when some lags try to brutalise him. His seeming saviour has one or two stipulation, however, namely that JR helps him with a big heist on the outside. However, his planned getaway pilot has a new girlfriend (Alicia Vikander) and the job has lost some of its sheen since his release. This scene plays out as all that tension builds to a head.

Behind the camera on Son Of A Gun is debut director Julius Avery, a Western Australian with a Cannes short film award to his name, who shot the prison scenes in the real-life surrounds of Casuarina maximum-security jail in his home state. McGregor in a proper bad-guy role is well worth a look too.

Son Of Gun crashes into UK cinemas on January 30, although if you're in the US and have access to DirecTV services you can catch it right now. If not, January 16 is the date to look out for it in your nearest Stateside cineplex. Click to watch the trailer in full.
