If you're feeling chilled by the weather or bleary-eyed from the cricket, here's a slice of Dustin Hoffman and Paul Giamatti to warm the cockles. Out in the new year, Barney's Version pairs the two great character actors as a chalk-and-cheese father and son pairing: Barney Panofsky (Giamatti) is a TV producer with a chequered love life and fondness for a tipple; his pa, a retired beat cop with some skeletons of his own.

Barney's Version's new quad poster gives a flavour of the romantic (mis)adventures that fuel one of the year's smartest character dramas. Based on a novel by Canadian author Mordecai Richler, it sees Giamatti in terrific form as a flawed man who one night finally stumbles on true love. The hitch? It's his wedding night.

Giamatti and Hoffman get strong support from Rosamund Pike, Minnie Driver, Rachelle Lefevre as Barney's other halves and Scott Speedman as his roguish best pal. Look out too for Jake Hoffman, the next generation of Hoff-talent, who skips a generation to play Barney's despairing son Michael.** **

Barney's Version** is out on January 28, but you can catch it tonight by heading over to Empire's Twitter feed where there are screening tickets ahoy...
