Luc Besson's latest film The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adèle Blanc-Sec is a capersome action film unlike anything the director has wowed us with before - and let's not forget this is the man that made The Fifth Element. There will be pterodactyls, gun battles, steampunk heroines and reanimated mummys wreaking havoc.

It's ticking boxes that we didn't even know existed. But is it any good? Well, Adèle's new poster gives a pretty good idea of its grand scale and Great War setting, and judging by this at least, it looks pretty splendid in a turn-of-the-century way.

The story, adapted from Jacques Tardi's French/Belgium comic book, involves said heroine embarking a quest for Egypt and the pyramids. Back in Paris, dinosaurs are mysteriously hatched via the telepathic powers of the devious Professor Espérandieu and Jurassic carnage is unleashed on the City of Lights. And somewhere among the Parisian chaos Mathieu Amalric pops up looking a little bit like a dentally challenged Bee Gee.

Unless you were one of the few people to see his expensively constructed animation Arthur And The Invisibles, Besson probably hasn't been on your radar for a while now, but this sounds like a characteristically original return for the Frenchman.

The Adventures Of Adèle Blanc-Sec gets its UK release on April 22. Watch this space for a first glimpse at the trailer soon.
