After the first image hitting the web and a teaser that mashed-up footage of the cast at the New York Comic-Con and slivers of the trailer, we now welcome the full on, gore-soaked red band trailer for the remake of Evil Dead. Take a peek – if you dare – above.
From the looks of this first proper glimpse, the movie, produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell and directed by Fede Alvarez, doesn’t hold back and doesn’t skimp on the horror.
It’s also more of a reinvention than a remake, with a group of young ‘uns (including Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas and Lou Taylor Pucci) standing in for Campbell’s Ash as the unfortunates who head to a spooky cabin in the woods, discover the Necronomicon, read chunks and unleash terrible evil.
Raimi and Alvarez certainly appear to have put their cast through similar tribulations to the ones Campbell endured, tweaking elements here and there (the grabby trees seem even worse this time around). Question is, can it be as wildly entertaining as the lo-fi classic that spawned it?
We’ll find out if the whole thing works as well as this glimpse when Evil Dead arrives on April 12.
