It's felt like a long time since we saw Vincent Gallo regularly on the big screen. Now hot on the heels of Copolla's **Teatro **he's back in Essential Killing, a breathless on-the-lam movie that, judging by its beautiful cinematograph, can best be described as an arthouse Bourne.
Movieland's arch maverick, Gallo plays Mohammed, a Muslim man who escapes from his American army captors in the desert and must go on the run for his life across savage mountains, snowbound vistas and Emmanuelle Seigner's kitchen.
It's directed by Polish helmer Jerzy Skolimowski who's so far refused to elaborate further on Gallo's character. Is he a terrorist or the victim of mistaken identity? Either way, he seems to have taken to the whole fight-or-flight business pretty well. Don't expect much by way of Gallo banter, though. His character remains wordless throughout.

Gallo will be kicking ass on April 1 when Essential Killing arrives in cinemas. It's not an April fool, we've checked.
