You have already seen our subscriber's cover for the November issue of Empire, showcasing Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. Now at last we can unveil the newsstand cover, with Matthew McConaughey in even closer focus at the heart of the film.

Inside you will find Nolan and his cast giving the best indication yet of what we can expect from his secrecy-shrouded science fiction effort. Says Nolan, "It’s a very classically constructed movie, but the freshness of the narrative elements really enhance it. I liken it to the blockbusters I grew up with as a kid, family films in the best sense: edgy, incisive, challenging."

And as for its comparisons to his last science fiction effort, Inception, the director says, "It’s almost a mirror image of Inception. It expands out in the way Inception contracts inwards.”

Also in the issue we look at Mike Leigh's much-praised Mr Turner and talk to his star, Timothy Spall; visit Brad Pitt and company on set of Fury and take a look at the films that inspired Nolan's Interstellar. Benedict Cumberbatch is the subject of our Big Interview, explaining why David Bowie prompted him to consider retirement. And then there's James Dyer's oral history of The West Wing, reuniting cast and crew to chronicle one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
