Well, Will Gluck’s Easy A, a clumsy-sounding teen comedy remake of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel, The Scarlet Letter, just rose a little higher in Empire’s estimation today when the talented and underrated actress, Emma Stone, signed on.
Stone, a naturally funny actress who has spent much of her relatively short career contributing memorable turns in the likes of **Superbad **and – honest, trust us – The House Bunny, will play a high school student who pretends to be the school slut, hoping to benefit from the publicity. Which is sort of, but actually not really at all, like the ordeal endured by Hawthorne’s heroine, Nester Prynne.
Anyway… it’s a teen comedy, and let’s not quibble. It may be the next Clueless, after all.
Gluck, who also produces, will direct from Bert V. Royal’s script. Filming starts soon in Olaji, California.
As for Stone, she’s going through something of a purple patch; she was recently announced as one of the actresses tapped for Zack Snyder’s **Watchmen **follow-up, Sucker Punch, and will soon be seen in Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past. It’ll be good, though, to see her get her teeth into a lead role, instead of playing the sarcastic, nerdish best friend for once.
