Emily Blunt is like the Terminator of acting – she absolutely will not stop until she gets every role out there for beautiful young English women. It wasn't so long ago that we spoke to Emily about her crowded upcoming slate, which includes Sunshine Cleaning, The Jane Austen Book Club, The Great Buck Howard, Charlie Wilson's War, Wind Chill and Dan In Real Life. Well, now you can chalk up another one – she's bagged the lead in Young Victoria, which is to be produced by no less than the Oscar winning team of Graham King and Martin Scorsese.
The script (no points for guessing what it's about) is from Oscar winning Brit screenwriter Julian Fellowes, is to be directed by Jean-Marc Vallee. He gave us the very enjoyable C.R.A.Z.Y. last year, and will be focusing this time on "the turbulent early years of Queen Victoria's rule, and her romance with Prince Albert." Thank you, Variety.
Interestingly, Fellowes' screenplay found its way into the hands of King (whom you may have seen earlier this year on stage at the Oscars, picking up his statue for The Departed's Best Picture win) via a real royal connection, with the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson making the introductions between screenwriter and producer. There's no word yet on casting for Prince Albert, nor has a shooting date been announced – which may be down to calendars not being able to see further ahead than Ms Blunt's current schedule.
