We’ll admit to being as shocked as you when we heard the news about the upcoming Donnie Darko sequel. With a resounding “WHY?” we questioned the validity of such a project and the artistic merits of continuing the time-bending saga.
Well, it's time for us to eat a fat slice of humble pie as news reaches us of a major new talent joining the cast – or not!
That’s right folks, worry no longer. Where Richard Kelly’s original masterpiece had the likes of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, director Chris Fisher’s follow-up is set to feature Showgirls’ Elizabeth Berkley. Phew, that’s a relief, for a while there we thought this was going to be a pile of cack.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the former Saved By The Bell star has joined the cast of S. Darko (aka Samantha D) alongside Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick, Dragonball star Justin Chatwin, Step Up 2: The Streets' Briana Evigan and returning Darko alumni Daveigh Chase as the eponymous heroine.
Berkley is set to play a speed freak-turned-Jesus freak who is infatuated with her dreamy pastor in the film which is set seven years after the events of the original.
The film is currently shooing in Utah, unless some kind of time-tunnel opens up and allows us to stop this craziness from ever happening.
