The habit of directors announcing casting for their movies on Twitter – and on this case, via Vine blip video – continues. Jon Favreau took to the social media service to announce the casting of Dustin Hoffman in Chef.

Favreau’s new ensemble comedy, which he wrote and is now directing in Los Angeles, sees him also returning to leading man status, playing a chef who is sacked from a prestigious job and looks to re-energise his life and career by launching a food truck.
There are no details on whom Hoffman might be playing, but he joins a cast list that features Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Bobby Cannavale, John Leguizamo and a chancer named Robert Downey Jr..
Chef will hit US screens on May 9 next year, but there’s no word on a UK release just yet. Given the starry cast and director, there’s a strong chance it’ll be headed over here as soon as it finds a distributor.
Hoffman last brought Quartet to our screens as director, but while attached to several scripts, he doesn’t appear to have any solid plans beyond Chef and a likely return to voice Shifu in** Kung Fu Panda 3**.
