The first trailer for Keira Knightley's next movie The Duchess has been released and you can watch it below.
Having given it a small peruse, we can't help but think that this teaser is rather overplaying its hand. Its editing, grand music and brief shots of people saying very poetic things which don't really mean a great deal when you think about them, suggest that this is a story that the world has been desperate to see told. But ask most people on the street who the Duchess of Devonshire was and the most common answer will likely be 'Was she that fat ginge who went to America to advertise Weight Watchers?'.
The Duchess was in fact the scandalous 18th century aristo Georgiana Cavendish, who became a notorious public figure for her bold political views and racy personal life. Here it just seems that she wore wigs the size of small zeppelins and shagged lots of people. Knightley's on a great run at the moment and, handled well, this could be the kind of film that pushes her further, but we hope it turns out less Barbara Cartland than this trailer indicates.
