Don Johnson: porno director.
No, the former Sonny Crockett hasn’t fallen on hard times, pun semi-intended*. Well, not that we know of. Instead, he’s signed on to join the cast of the Adam Sandler-penned comedy, Born To Be A Star, in which he’ll play… drum roll, please, and a slap in the face if you haven’t already guessed… a porn movie director.
Johnson will play a moustachioed, down-on-his-luck director who takes Nick Swardson’s hero under his sleazy wing when the latter travels to Hollywood to seek fame and fortune after discovering that his parents were legendary in-and-outers.
Obvious shades of Burt Reynolds in Boogie Nights, of course, but we’re sure that’s intentional. Johnson, who’ll next be seen in Mark Steven Johnson’s romantic comedy, When In Rome, can certainly turn on the sleaze taps when he wants to, so this is potentially great casting for a comedy that we’re beginning to like the sound of.
He joins Christina Ricci and Stephen Dorff (as Dick Shadow) in the comedy, which was co-written by Sandler and Swardson. Tom Brady is directing, while Sony is writing the cheques.
Tee hee, we said ‘semi’. RUDE!
