Last March, it was announced that Poltergeist** director Tobe Hooper would be returning to the haunted house genre, albeit with a distinctly different tone for Djinn. Now the trailer is online and can be watched below.
Djinn follows a young couple (Khalid Laith and Razane Jammal) who return home to the United Arab Emirates after a long trip to the US. They’ve arrived to live in their spiffy as it seems. You see, the structure was built on the site of an old Indian burial ground abandoned fishing village and the original inhabitants didn’t scarper because the fish supply dried up. Nope, the place is haunted by nasty genies known as the Djinn, who have decided to keep on causing trouble for the new tenants.
Rumours recently surfaced that the film could be in some trouble, specifically because of concerns from Abu Dhabi’s royal family. But production company Imagenation released a response assuring horror fans that all was well. There’s no release date set yet, but if it gets distribution, expect the movie some time this year.
