Revenge. Spaghetti Western. Bounty hunters. Quentin Tarantino certainly has cooked up a spicy, funny, violent and stylish stew for his latest offering, Django Unchained. If you’ve been itching to see footage after our report from Cannes, then you’re in for a treat. The first trailer is now online and can be seen below.

Jamie Foxx stars as Django, a slave who is rescued from a chain gang by German bounty hunter Dr King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Turns out that Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and Django can lead him to them. So a deal is offered: if Django helps the hunter find and kill the brothers, Schultz will free him completely and help him track down his wife, Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).

But while our hero takes to the life of a vengeful hunter quickly, he’ll still have to face down the ruthless-yet-charming Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), on his infamous plantation, Candie Land…

Full of the usual Tarantino strengths – cracking dialogue delivered by great actors (including Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell and Don Johnson) smooth visuals and great soundtrack work – Django Unchained has us eagerly anticipating its arrival on January 18 next year (America gets it on Christmas day). Mr Tarantino, you had our curiosity. But now you have our attention.

If it has yours, you’d be wise to check out the latest issue of Empire, available in print and both UK and US iPad editions, which includes an exclusive look at our visit to the set of QT’s latest.
