If Stephen Frears' **Philomena **is set to catapult Steve Coogan into the Serious Actor With Proper Awards Credentials bracket, fear not, there's still plenty of the star we know and love in the real-life drama. "It's strange because it's not a comedy, but it's a lot funnier than a lot of supposed comedies," Coogan told the Toronto Film Festival. "We wanted humor in there because we knew it was a tough story. I wanted it to be enjoyable to watch."
There a new Judi Dench on display too, with the sparky comic chemistry between the pair illuminating this new clip from the film. Click below to watch them in action.
Based on Martin Sixsmith's novel The Lost Child Of Philomena Lee, **Philomena **is the tragic true story of how Lee (Dench) became pregnant in 1950s Ireland and ended up giving birth at Sean Ross Abbey, a Catholic home for unmarried mothers in Tipperary. Three years into their life together, the nuns made her give the child up for adoption and he was sent to America. She was also forced to sign a pledge that she would never seek to find out what happened to him.
Lee moved to England and ended up married with a family, but never forgot her firstborn. In 2004, after meeting Sixsmith (Coogan), they began a quest to track him down. As the trailer shows, the search leads them to America.
**Philomena **is out in the UK on November 1.
