They’ve been rumoured for a while now – and Farrell essentially let the cat out of the bag at the weekend – but HBO has made it official, announcing that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the second season of hit crime anthology drama True Detective.
Set in California locales, and once more written by Nic Pizzolatto, the new season sees Farrell as Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner. The season will run as eight hour-long episodes and is scheduled to start shooting this autumn in California.
Justin Lin, who has also been rumoured, was confirmed in the same press release by the cable channel to direct the first two episodes. No information was provided about other potential casting decisions, with the likes of Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams said to be candidates for other roles, but we expect that to be announced soon enough.
