You'd be a fool to watch them

Five clips from The Road, have just arrived online. They're not exactly spoilerific, and it's not that they're not good, but if we were you, we wouldn't watch them anyway. Twelve whole minutes of John Hillcoat's long, long delayed, eagerly-awaited Viggo Mortensen-starring adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's brutal post-apocalyptic novel may seem tempting. But seriously, just trust us, you'll feel bad for indulging.

We have to report these things, but honestly, you'll want to just wait and see these as part of the whole movie. Look away. Go and read about Rambo 5.

...

Still here?

Very well then, on your own head be it.

Never Killed a Man is essentially a two-hander between Viggo and Garret Dillahunt, who recently stood out in the otherwise unremarkable Last House on the Left remake, and was so great in Deadwood they let him play Jack McCall and Francis Wolcott. Here he's playing The Gang Member.

We Did Good sees The Man (Viggo) and The Boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee) finding a food stash in a secret bunker and sharing an impromptu prayer for "good stuff".

He's a God is a clip of Viggo sharing a campfire with Robert Duvall (rocking a haggard Willie Nelson look), discussing offspring and the end of the world.

Bad Guys is high drama, as father and son are first attacked by starving ghouls and then have to sneak around a house to avoid its armed occupants.

And Catch Us is a flashback giving us a look at Charlize Theron as The Wife.

The haunting score is by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, who previously provided music for Hillcoat's gnarly Australian Western The Proposition (which Cave wrote), and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

The Road is finally released in the UK on January 8th, and if you're after yet more to keep you going between now and then, check out these posters for the film below.
