Disney has clearly decided it should be a two-Cinders News day, with word earlier that the Frozen** spin-off short Frozen Fever will debut in front of Kenneth Branagh’s CG-enhanced live-action fairy tale Cinderella. Now here are some new character posters for the film, featuring the heroine, her prince, the Fairy Godmother and the Evil Stepmother (boo, hiss, even if she is played by Cate Blanchett)...
Branagh’s take on the classic tale looks to be holding to the traditional story – you know, young Ella (Lilly James) sees her merchant father remarry following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine (Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drizella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. She’s turned into a domestic servant, meets a charming royal bloke (Richard Madden), falls in lurve, scores a chance to go to the ball he’s throwing via the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter), has a glass slipper wardrobe malfunction and... Well, we can’t tell you the whole story, can we? It’s a tightly kept secret that definitely hasn’t been out there for eons.
Chris Weitz wrote the script for this new take, and Cinderella will head to UK cinemas on March 27, 2015. Now we’re wondering if this represents a subtle attempt to build another shared universe at the Mouse House to match its Marvel stable. Will Maleficent pop up at the end of the credits?
