Charlize Theron Heads Into Danger For First Dark Places Clip

Back in November 2013 we got our first look at Charlize Theron as Libby Day in the adaptation of** Gone Girl **writer Gillian Flynn’s novel Dark Places. You can now see her portraying Day in the first clip from the movie, put out by a French distributor. We’d caution that the footage has NSFW language...

The plot sees the seven-year-old Day witness the murder of her family, seemingly the work of a Satanic cult, and testify against her own brother (Corey Stoll) as the murderer. Fast forward 25 years and the grown-up Day (Theron) has to face some unpleasant facts about the case. Approached by Nicholas Hoult's vigilante sleuths the Kill Club, she's forced to re-evaluate her original version of events.

This initial clip finds Libby meeting up with Hoult at the titular club, a place where the amateur detectives – an assortment of former law enforcement types and crime enthusiasts – gather to share information and try to solve slayings. It’s a strange place also frequented by those who enjoy play-acting as famous murderers, and it makes Libby instantly uncomfortable.

With Chloë Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks and Drea de Matteo in the cast, Dark Places hits France this week but has yet to confirm a release date here for the UK.
