Now here’s news to make any Anchorman fan happy: Brick Tamland and Brian Fantana are set to be reunited!

Or, to be more accurate, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, the actors who played those two pivotal members of the Channel 4 news team, are set to be reunited on Jay Roach’s long-gestating comedy, Dinner For Schmucks.

Both actors have been attached to the remake of Le diner de cons, the wildly popular French film directed by Francois Veber, for a couple of months now, but the project has been held-up by a dispute between Paramount and its former partner, DreamWorks, over who held the rights.

That was settled within the last 24 hours, with Spyglass Entertainment stepping in to co-fund most of the movie with Paramount, while DreamWorks will account for 33% of the film, once they’ve obtained their own funding.

Complicated? Maybe, but the upshot of it all is that Roach is now set to start shooting in October on this, his first film since 2004’s Meet The Fockers.

That will give Carell time to finish the current season of The Office, and Rudd may well be able to squeeze in James L. Brook’s new film beforehand. And maybe, just maybe, the two will get talking on set about the possibility of Anchorman 2… then they’ll give Will Ferrell and Adam McKay a call… and Brick and Brian will be reunited properly. Fingers crossed...
