While a multitude of TV spots for this summer’s big films arrived during the Super Bowl across the pond, we’ve decided to slice out a couple to spotlight, largely on the basis that these are the first real, moving looks we’ve had of either movie. It was certainly a big weekend for Captain America: The First Avenger with the poster arriving on Friday and now the first mini-teaser, which you can watch below.

Using digi-trickery (because, let’s face it, Marvel has neither the time nor the money to make Chris Evans pull a Christian Bale and shrink to a skeletal frame before beefing back up) to start out hero Steve Rogers as a scrawny wimp, we’re quickly introduced to the main thrust of the plot: ordinary bloke is turned into super soldier during World War Two.

What follows is a quick montage of Cap in action, battling the bad guys and interacting with Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter. There’s plenty of Evans’ usual charm on display here, even if the rest of the trailer passes by in a blitz of imagery. One thing really does stand out, though – Hugo Weaving looks downright demonic as Red Skull.

Take a look at the TV spot below and let us know your thoughts.

Captain America: The First Avenger is out on July 29. There’s more on the film in the latest issue of Empire.
