Ah, the high concept thriller. Such a storied history, and yet also home to some less-than-successful attempts to make the idea work on screen. We’re hoping The Call, which features Halle Berry and Abigail Breslin in front of the camera and The Machinist’s Brad Anderson behind it, manages to pull off the trick. Check out the first trailer above.
Originally titled The Hive, and backed by wrestling entertainment company WWE (not often a great sign, but since no one has seen the film yet, we’ll hold off from judging), **The Call **features Berry as a 911 call operator.
She’s still traumatised from an incident in which she mistakenly got a young female caller killed by a maniac home invader. Looking to atone, she thinks she has her chance when a call comes in from Abigail Breslin, who has been snatched while walking through a parking garage. It's the same man! Dun! Dun! Duuuur!
As the terrified Breslin tries to escape, Berry must talk her through the encounter, and try to keep her alive. With Morris Chestnut, Michael Imperioli, Ella Rae Peck, Steven Williams, Michael Eklund and Roma Maffia also among the cast, **The Call **hits US cinemas on March 15, but doesn’t have a set UK date yet.
