Bryan Singer has truly embraced his role as – at least for now – the primary source of information about X-Men: Days Of Future Past, which he’s busy directing in Montreal. Now he’s posted a video on Vine, which features a selection of the cast’s chairs. Among some familiar names are characters new to the movie universe, including Bishop, Blink and James “Warpath” Proudstar.
The characters might be new, but at least it means we can finally match actors to them. Let’s start with Bishop. When Omar Sy was originally cast in the movie, most of the speculation pointed to him taking on the role of Lucas Bishop. He’s a tough guy from the alternate future timeline where the mutant-hunting Sentinels are in charge of America and many of our X-heroes are dead. He and his parents arrived in the States after escaping the destruction of Australia and immediately put into a mutant relocation camp and branded with “M” tattoos over their right eyes for identification. He ends up travelling through time to help Charles Xavier and the rest of the X-Men with their fight against the terrifying future, though he has also been an adversary.
Blink, meanwhile, was terrified when her teleportation powers first manifested, but ended up using them heroically. Given that Chinese actress Fan Bingbing is playing the character in the movie, it’s not yet known how much of her backstory will make it into the movie's crammed running time.
As for Warpath – to be played in the film by Booboo Stewart – he’s an Apache with a talent for using hand-to-hand combat (and Vibranium Bowie knives) who in the comics has a long, complicated, changeable history with Xavier and his superhero teams. How exactly he fits into Future Past remains to be seen.
Among the other chairs listed? We have Logan (Hugh Jackman), Xavier (Patrick Stewart/James McAvoy), Magneto (Ian McKellen/Michael Fassbender), Storm (Halle Berry), Kitty Pride (Ellen Page), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Colossus (Daniel Cudmore). Now we just need to know who Peter Dinklage is playing…
X-Men: Days Of Future Past is out on July 17 next year.
