In a crowded marketplace for kiddie-focused fantasy epics, you’ve really got to stand out from the crowd if you want to score that Potter-sized chest of treasure that every studio is looking for.
So pardon us if we don’t get too exciting by this first trailer for Disney’s The Bridge To Terabithia. Admittedly, it’s still early days, and we’re sure there are plenty of extra-special effects lurking within the graphics mainframes of the effects teams, all ready to send young jaws crashing to the floor, but so far? Not all that impressive.
The story of two kids who dream up a fantasy world that’s at the other end of a rope swing and is populated with giant talking trees just smacks of Narnia-meets-the-Ents. And the synopsis – that these unlikely mates who rule the place as king and queen to escape less than happy real lives is also just a little too close to the company’s CS Lewis adaptations for our liking.
It’s always difficult to judge something on a first trailer, but that won’t stop anyone, so click here and have at it!
