Ah, Splice. If you thought GM crops were scary, how about a human crossed with animal DNA? One that grows at an accelerated rate, has a head like a big scary egg, boasts a long, wire-like tail, and eventually (wait for it…) grows wings and the taste for murder.
You might prefer the tagline on the original theatrical poster “She’s not human… well, not entirely” but there’s something about this one’s inclusion of the wings (not seen until later in the film) that really gives us the proverbial heebly-jeeblies.
So just as a reminder as to why you should watch it when it comes out on July 23: it’s directed and written by Cube creator, Vincenzo Natali, it stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley as the two ethics-ignoring scientists who create the beast in question, and the genetic oogly-boogly monster is called ‘Dren’ which is as we all know is ‘Nerd’ backwards. Geek win!
