The A-Team’s potential for a sequel was always in the balance – and now, from Face’s very own mouth, it seems there definitely won’t be a follow-up.
In town to talk about his latest movie, Limitless, the worryingly handsome actor was in the Empire office today for a webchat, where one of you lovely people asked this question:
Holmesy says: “Any news on the** A-Team 2**? Will there be one? I thought it was great and my friends felt the same.”
Bradley’s response: “I loved it too. But unfortunately, outside of you, a few of your friends and myself, there just wasn't enough revenue to supply a second instalment of that franchise.”
This is a great shame in our opinion, as though The A-Team wasn’t a perfect movie, it was a big bag of fun.
If you look at the numbers, the US haul clocked in at $77 million, and the rest of the world, $100 million. Its budget was $110, so there’s $67 million there to pay for all the marketing (and there was a lot).
This just wasn’t enough for a mid-summer blockbuster – and maybe releasing it during the World Cup opening weekend wasn’t a great idea in hindsight.
But what about the other members of the team? Speaking to Liam Neeson back in February, Den Of Geek reported that Hannibal was still game for another film.
"Well, there's nothing planned at the minute, but the studios certainly aren't saying no. I personally would love to get on the horse again, you know? With Bradley and Sharlto and Rampage - we all would. But with the studios and the studio system it's a question of dollars and cents."
Hmm. That combined with Bradley’s quote here means that things aren’t looking great, plan-coming-together-wise. Empire’s suggestion? A TV spin-off. You know, for the irony.
Still, what do you guys make of the news? Are you not that bothered, or genuinely distraught? Or, as is more likely, somewhere in between? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
