The shades of Fight Club live on. Not only is Brad Pitt reteaming with Edward Norton in the coming months, but he's set to star alongside Mark Wahlberg in Darren Aronofsky's boxing drama The Fighter.

The project stars Mark Wahlberg in the lead role of Irish-American boxer Mickey Ward, a man renowned for his ability to take incredible beatings and stay standing, leading him to eventually become World Lightweight Champion and to a fight, with Canadian Arturo Gatti, that some commentators consider one of the best ever.

Pitt would play Ward's half-brother Dicky Eklund, himself a talented fighter who went up against Sugar Ray Leonard but then turned to crime and landed in prison. Upon release, he was instrumental in helping Ward to success.

Matt Damon was originally lined up to play Dicky when the project was announced back in March, but appears to have bowed out (perhaps he's going to be busy on Imperial Life in the Emerald City instead?). That's a shame, because he and Wahlberg are both Bostonians and even resemble each other slightly, but Damon's Ocean's partner-in-crime is an entirely acceptable replacement.

Darren Aronofsky's directing, with a script due any moment from Scott 8 Mile Silver.
