With Sundance 2010 now underway, expect to see a flurry of official sites and trailers for the films in participation. Luckily for us, one of the films we’ve had our eye on for a little while now – Taika Waititi’s Boy – is among the first wave to hit the intertubes.
Waititi is the New Zealander who brought us Eagle Vs Shark, and has since written and directed some of the best episodes of Flight Of The Conchords, but his latest feature takes us back to the territory of his Oscar nominated short film, Two Cars One Night. It follows Boy, a lad who has to deal with the return of his absentee father (who’s been serving at Her Majesty’s pleasure for seven years) – a man whom the child has been, in between obsessing over Michael Jackson (it is 1984, after all), mis-remembering for most of his life – see the trailer for the full list of his talents here.
What's really caught our eye though, is this viral site for Boy’s Dad’s gang, the Crazy Horses. Make sure you click through to the ‘videos’ page to see the hilarious demo on streetfighting, and a rundown of the rules of being in the gang, which should give you an idea of what Boy’s parental unit is really like.
It’s a great set-up for what looks to be a terrific little film, so keep an eye out for a report from Damon Wise on **Boy **in the coming days.
