No matter where he jaunts off to, Woody Allen is able to round up a great cast for his films. He’s certainly got an eclectic mix for his latest, Blue Jasmine, which stars Cate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins. The first trailer has arrived online.
Blanchett plays the titular Jasmine, who is blue in this case because she’s just been swindled by her conniving, charming ex-husband Hal (Alec Baldwin). Flat broke and out of options, she falls on the mercy of her sister (Sally Hawkins) and moves in with her in San Francisco.
As she tries to figure out her life, Jasmine interacts with the various people in her sibling’s life, including Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Alden Ehrenreich, Peter Sarsgaard and even Andrew Dice Clay. We told you it was eclectic.
Jasmine appears to be blending Allen’s typically dry wit with his more dramatic side this time, and the results look promising. Blue Jasmine will be out on September 20.
