The second day of the BFI London Film Festival 2012 featured something no LFF could ever do without: buckets of blood rain, falling from the sky and onto the assembled stars in Leicester Square, this time around for Nick Murphy's (The Awakening) Blood and David Ayers' End Of Watch.

Blood, a British police procedural starring Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham as a pair of cop brothers forced to investigate a crime they themselves committed, had pretty much all its stars out to meet and greet – Mark Strong sent his apologies – whereas poor Michael Peña was left on his lonesome as End Of Watch co-star Jake Gyllenhaal and director Ayers had unavoidable prior commitments.

Still, it's good to see actors playing the boys in blue from different sides of the pond walking the same red carpet beat, with Blood's set-up a far more traditional one compared to Ayers' semi-found footage L.A. gangland bromance-cum-drama.
